How should we punish Saddam Hussein? I think we should do a few things. The first is tell him that we are sending his female relatives to school, even college. If that doesn't scare him, tell him that we are going to make him watch "American Idol" continually for 24 hours. If he still fails to break, then he should be forced to attend an Atlanta Hawks home game. The attendance at a home game can double if all of the vendors show up.OK, time for me to rant on something else that I only get pissed off about every 23 minutes - common sense (or lack of it). Why? I see things that just get on my last nerve. Then they trounce that last nerve until I am almost ready to explode.
What constitutes a lack of common sense? Here are several examples:
A work schedule gets posted at work. You write down your hours for the week. Then, when you show up to work, you find that the schedule has been changed, and you're off that day. Did they think to TELL you that the schedule had changed? No. Did they let you drive 30 minutes and waste gas and wear-and-tear on your car? Yes. Did anyone take responsibility for making the change and apologize for not telling you? No. THAT is a lack of common sense. Now I am forced to either go from oral surgery directly to an 8-hour work shift (still under pain medication), or else forgo 20% of my weekly income. What a nice choice. I have to lose money due to someone else's incompetence, or else I have to do hard work while already in pain. Hmmmm. Merry Fucking Christmas. I've QUIT better jobs than that.
Here's another reason why my blood pressure should be 23,000/12,000: A girl in Alabama was suspended for bringing an Advil to school for menstrual cramps. What the fuck? We used to bemoan the fact that we couldn't get kids to stay in school. Now, whenever they bother to show up, they're looking for any reason to suspend and/or expel them. Just what is the mission of school these days? Please explain to me exactly how we educate them by not allowing them into schools? And please tell me how we teach tolerance and acceptance by a zero (read: no) tolerance policy? We should fire EVERY teacher in this country, and then let them all reapply for their jobs. When we go to rehire them, we should ask them where their priorities lie. If they mention the word "tenure", then thank them for their time, and send them home promptly. If they mention the great pay, send them directly to have a CT-scan to make sure they don't have a brain tumor. If they say it's so that they can show children the greatness of government while exposing the greed of the religious right, then please tear up their voter's registration card and send them directly to California. Eventually, we can find a few good people who are willing to teach without indoctrinating, and willing to serve with accountability.
