Happy Fourth of July. I was reading the local paper, and I saw an article that detailed an amazing fact. The top 2% of income earners pay 53.5% of all tax revenue to the IRS.

Think about that. Two people out of every hundred pay more than the other 98.

I used to know someone who we affectionately named Pumpkinhead. His head was large, rounded, and mainly empty on the inside. Pumpkinhead used to tell me that "rich people" should "pay their fair share".

I've avoided the brain aneurysm that normally accompanies listening to so stupid a phrase. But it's always pissed me off. Not because the facts show how stupid that phrase is, but because it is so representative of the mass of myrmidons who repeat it.

I listen to people that I work with, who say such idyllic and simple-minded things as that we have a responsibility to take care of others if we live in a "society". He has yet to be able to quote any legislation which supports this, but it's amusing to listen as he tells me how we (which includes me in his world) are obliged to pay for healthcare for people who were not responsible enough to provide for their own healthcare.

Now, you can argue that we are responsible for them. But we're not.

Freedom to succeed means freedom to fail as well. My Dad spent most of my childhood trying to get me to understand that how I end up is the result of what I do. What I've become is the culmination of all of the decisions that I made in my life. If you've made bad decisions, then you may not have the healthcare options that you desire available to you.

That being said, you have no Right to take the fruits of my labor and use it to pay for your healthcare. If you can't take care of yourself, I guess you have to turn to charity to assist you. And there are PLENTY of charities that will help you.

If you have a medical emergency, you can go to any hospital emergency room.

If you need prescription medication, there are several programs (many funded by those evil companies that are so demonized by the Democrats) that will provide you with free or lost cost medicines.

So, what is the problem?

Getting back to the original rant, how is it unfair that 2% of the population pay 53.5% of the taxes? Is there no end to the greed of people?

I'd love to hear, just once, a definition of "fair" from these socialists.

See what else I have to say Previous day's rant
